Happy Halloween! In honor of the holiday and for your visual enjoyment, here is a picture of my adorable cousin Jenna dressed like a pumpkin:
And one of the pumpkins on my parents’ porch, which my dad sent me last night to make me homesick:
Moving forward!
I’m doing better than my last post. Feeling cold and dangerous lately, but aside from feeling no compassion toward a few people I feel slighted by, I’m mostly back to normal.
I had a dream the other night that I’m pretty happy about. I’m generally in the “dreams are just your brain defragmenting” camp, but I think this one was a good omen. In it, I got a call from someone in my complex telling me that there was a tarantula loose in my apartment that I’d need to deal with. Obviously, if this happened in real life, I would run from my apartment, probably screaming, and make someone else deal with the problem. I could maybe be coaxed back in long enough to retrieve Sophie and Picasso if someone needed to spray the place, but that is more of a testament to my love for those little winged brats than any indication of my ability to cope with large arachnids. In my waking life, this is pretty much the worst thing I can think of that doesn’t involve some sort of mortality.
But in my dream I didn’t do what I think I’d do in real life. I didn’t even get up. I was somewhat anxious but mostly just inanimate. Maybe a little confused as to why I wasn’t more worked up about the circumstances. And sooner or later in all this pondering, the bastard crawled into my line of sight. I picked up my college multivariable calculus textbook—a heavy thing I hold in no detectable amount of esteem—and crushed the shit out of its exoskeleton.
Later, my friends expressed their shock at this reaction, and I found myself telling each one that yeah, it wasn’t actually that big of a deal.
So, I think I’m on my way.
In the meantime, I’m working on a project to delete all my bad pictures and put all the good ones on flickr at full resolution. Like all my pictures ev-ar. This is step one in my new digital preservation initiative, since I’m not that great at keeping stuff backed up and I have too much stuff anyway. Updates on that soon!
