This weekend was the Cars premiere, and I don’t know where to start.
The film was great, as all Pixar’s are. I couldn’t really get into the Nascar theme, but it’s easy enough to put behind you. I have never felt so overwhelmed by entertainment before: there were bands and celebrities and fireworks and routines and surprise appearances and you almost can’t even take it all in.
I read something recently about much stars hate film premieres, and it sort of makes sense. The stars were herded from one interviewer to another like cattle. Owen Wilson was almost late…we saw him walking in the drizzle; he asked a policeman to drive him to the front, and got denied. Larry the Cable Guy was the MC for the event…apparently in the south he’s like Jesus. Some lady directing the traffic on the red carpet asked us to move along when we got to the crowd around him. David said (ironically), “but it’s Larry the Cable Guy!” The lady said “yes I know, I love him too, but we need to keep everybody moving”. I like the thought of David actually being captivated by Larry the Cable Guy.
The whole event was really amazing, so I guess the primary lesson to take away from the experience is that missing a film premiere could be one of the biggest mistakes of your life.
I told my mom how scary it was to me that I had considered not going and she reminded me that in middle and high school I always tried to get out of going to dances and parties and whatnot. She always said I should go for a half hour, and if I hated it, I could call and she’d come pick me up. She always talked me into it and I never called.
So that’s today’s carpe diem post. I ordered a new cage for the parrotlets and a duvet set for my bedroom…pictures of both when I fix my camera.
