Because I’m old now and fearing the onset of senility, I have to send this link before I forget, just because it’s pretty much everything I love:

Code Monkey (thanks Chris!)

So I turned 24 this weekend. Every year on my birthday I find myself thinking about the past year, and I’m happy to report that I can’t think of many ways in which my life hasn’t improved over this last one. Unsettling though, is that this is the first year that I haven’t necessarily been happy about adding a year to my age. This does not bode well for my yearly tradition of making the biggest deal out of my birthday ever. My childhood friends will be shocked to hear that I encountered grocery store clerks, waitresses, bums, and a gas station attendant on my birthday and I didn’t tell any of them the significance of the day. I never thought I’d say it, but it doesn’t seem like such a big deal anymore. I have all the privileges and freedoms I care about already; I guess in one more year I’ll be able to rent cars without a hassle, but that’s about as exciting to me as getting the senior discount at Golden Corral a couple years after that. And if you aren’t buying that I’m old now, I HAVE GRAY HAIR. Not the cute “ehhh I’ve got a few early adopters” gray, but “for every gray hair you pluck out, n-factorial come back” gray. Dying my hair was fun when it was an elective procedure, but now I resent it just on principle. I should have been prepared…my mom always said she started going gray when she was 18, but since (I love you mom) she tends to exaggerate, I always assumed that was code for 45.

So that’s the news: I’m old, and it’s COLD outside. I admit, I’ve turned into a huge sissy about the cold (my brother was telling me that it was fifteen below zero in the UP this weekend), so now that I’ve come clean after 5 years of trying to be a hardass about it, you know, if the weather wanted to go ahead and hurry up and not suck, that would be pretty great by me.

don't be shy. say something :)
