So yesterday I finally got down to studying for my driver’s exam and thought I’d share some little factoids about driving in the state of North Carolina. I am not making any of these up:

*If you buy or conspire to buy alcohol for a minor, the DMV is required to revoke your drivers license for a year [p 29] (this crime, which does not imply any lack of driving ability, carries the same penalty as accidentally killing someone with your car [p 33])

*School bus drivers drive a half a million miles each day. I realize that’s combined, but I liked the ambiguity.

*If you watch a pre-arranged car race, the DMV is required to revoke your license for 3 years. [p 34] This obviously doesn’t apply to Nascar (but I think it should).

*Riding in the bed of a pickup truck is totally cool, as long as you’re over the age of 12 or have a guardian in the bed with you or a seat belt or you live in a community with fewer than 3500 residents. [p 41]

*When you are on the road and want to pass someone, you should use your turn signal to alert the driver behind you that you are going to pass, and honk the horn to alert the person in front of you that you plan to pass them [49]

*During the day, turn signals can be hard to see, so you should always use a hand signal [p 67]

I hope I pass this time. Want to get in on the fun?
