Ah, Internet. So we meet again.

I am sick and have lost my voice. It’s not quite the picnic you might imagine. People hold doors open for me and I can’t even thank them. I want to tell stories at lunch but am not equipped.

I still haven’t posted any christmas pictures, and this time it’s not even because I’m a piece of crap—my camera died when I dropped it in the snow and left it there for a week. Hm, I guess that still makes me sort of a piece of crap, but it still partway explains my lack of pictures. I broke down and bought a new one and contrary to my initial assessment of the situation, it wasn’t the end of the world. So that’s good. Mom put my SD card in the mail, and I’ll post pictures when that shows up.

I’m doing a lot better than I was in my last post.

I wrote a little while ago about deciding to move out of my current apartment. I entertained the idea of making a break for the midwest when my lease ended but ultimately decided that i’m not ready. I’ve got a lot of things going on here…a couple of them very new, very exciting things, and I want to ride that out for a bit.

I was really anxious about finding an apartment, because lately making decisions for me is really hard and I have an even lower than normal tolerance for bullshit. Apartment hunting always involves a lot of bullshit. But two nights ago I dipped my toe in the water and happened to stumble upon a totally adorable apartment that’s pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. My current apartment is beautiful and in a great location, and the idea that I’d have to sacrifice one of those qualities in order to find a place in a more reasonable price range was not making me any more enthusiastic. But then, here was this one, only a block or two further, approximately as fun, and (!) available the week I needed to move out of my place.

I went to see it yesterday and ran for my checkbook when I heard that it was being shown again in an hour. We went through the whole process and within 40 minutes of arriving at the main office, I had the apartment thing all squared away, and it was not nearly as stressful as I thought it might be, so that makes me happy. The unit itself is a little rougher around the edges, but much brighter, cozier, quieter, and cheaper than where I live now. And it has a walk-in closet and french doors! I’m really happy about it.

Wanna see pictures? Oooooffff course you do:

I took those from the internet, but will post real ones when I get there and get my stuff into it.

I was skeptical about the kitchen in this photo, but it was much cuter in person, and I don’t recall the refrigerator actually being yellow. I’m so starved for natural light in my current place that I think this will be really good for my mood as well.

Also! I usually loathe paperwork, but signing the new lease was really good for me. Everything is changing, and I benefit from reinforcement that I’m not getting carried away with the current, that I’m a would rent again, that I can act normal even if I don’t always feel it.

Lots of good things are happening to me lately, despite everything. Maybe partially because of it?

  1. It looks really cute! Congratulations on finding it.

  4. :) great hunting sister, craigslist is the best. Normally I hate apartments because most of them I’ve been to have been boring as hell but I really like this one, it has the kind of character that I plan on looking for when I move again. I wish I was closer to help you move!

Stick in there; i love you,

    Pete

  5. w00t! You’re gonna make it totally cute. But…did you ask if it was built over any ancient “Indian” burial grounds? That would be a bummer…..
